October Food Forest Planting Days

We recently completed a weekend of activities at the Just Food Community Food Forest in Blackburn Hamlet. We had a gorgeous weekend with unusually high temperatures for this time in October. An enthusiastic group of volunteers, including university students from Carleton and U of Ottawa, along with families from the area and helpers from Just Food partners such as Chi Gardens and Radical Homestead joined Nanabush Food Forests in an epic amount of work…

We built a community food forest! What does this mean? It means we planted and mulched many trees, herbs and onions, built hugelkultur mounds, prepared many mushroom logs, hauled logs, compost and soil, created a pollinator garden, built a wine cap mushroom bed, just to name a few of the accomplishments!

Check out some of the effort done by a fabulous team of volunteers!
